Tour Info
This trip will focus on the geology and hydrology of the Johnson Creek Watershed. This will be an approximately 6-hour car tour led by Melanie Klym and Matthew Brunengo.
Please bring a lunch. Start/end location: front of MILWAUKIE CITY HALL, 10722 SE Main St.
Melanie Klym is a water resources engineer at GeoEngineers. She uses her interdisciplinary background in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology and engineering to lead and design stream and floodplain restoration projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. As an engineer with a science background she enjoys 'translating' between the disciplines. Her particular interest is in restoring the hydraulic connections of streams to their alluvial aquifers and increasing hyporheic exchange to manage stream temperatures.
Matthew Brunengo grew up in the Johnson Creek watershed and is an associate adjunct professor of geology at Portland State University. He also has a connection to GeoEngineers having worked there as a Senior Geologist. He has worked with the Washington Dept. of Natural Resources in both Geology and Earth Resources and Forestry Practices divisions.
