GSOC Old Timers' Get Together
/Bart Bartels will soon be moving to Iowa, so Rosemary Kenney and Jan Kem suggested a small get together where many of the very active GSOC members from 15 or 20 or even 58! years ago could visit each other and exchange memories before Bart leaves.
We met in Room SB17 – you may remember it if you attended lectures prior to 2014 or so. 25 people attended and we had a nice time talking, looking at a mastodon tooth that Bart has given to GSOC, browsing and giving new homes to books that cannot be moved to Iowa, and exchanging memories of meetings and field trips.
Carol Hasenberg suggested that we take pictures of the GSOC past presidents and of the 25 of us there, 10 had served at least one year as GSOC president!
Thank you to Paul Edison-Lahm for stepping in at the last minute as moderator and Sheila Alfsen for helping out with that. (Unfortunately, Clark Niewendorp was not able to be there due to illness.) Also thanks to Carole Miles for talking a bit about the Bev Vogt Grant Fund and Scott Burns for filling us in on the student perspectives. And to Barb Stroud for setting this up. We hope that all who attended, on the nice warm sunny day in the window-less room SB17, enjoyed seeing their geology friends!
